First-Year Faculty Engagement and Networking Series
Learn More
The First-Year Faculty Engagement and Networking Series is designed to acclimate new faculty members to the college, university, and broader community. The series begins with the New Faculty Welcome and includes additional sessions throughout the academic year focused on the college and university processes (e.g., annual evaluations and promotion) and regional learning experiences at sites throughout Northwest Arkansas.
In the 2023–2024 academic year, the college offered its New Faculty Welcome to 26 faculty members joining the college. In September, “Learn About the Arts in Northwest Arkansas” included a Lunch and Learn session with Arkansas A+ staff and a guided tour of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. In November, the director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) provided a guided hike of the Yellow Rock Trail at Devil’s Den State Park, where participants not only learned about Arkansas state parks and native flora and fauna but also about OLLI. New faculty members were offered two sessions detailing the annual evaluation process. The series wrapped up with an OLLI course on pizza-making in the teaching kitchen of the Donald W. Reynolds Boys and Girls Club, where new faculty had the opportunity to interact with senior leaders in the college in an informal setting.
Assessment of Faculty and Staff Needs
Learn More
Conducting regular employee satisfaction surveys, focus group discussions, and exit interviews while actively engaging with the Caring Culture Committee enables the College of Education and Health Professions leadership to understand and address employee concerns, promote a caring work culture, and strengthen employee retention.
In April 2024, the Dean’s office deployed the COEHP Pulse Survey to gather feedback from faculty and staff. Ninety faculty and staff members completed the survey. The Executive Team held a retreat on May 8 to review the feedback and discuss the areas of success and growth opportunities. A positive culture, increased outreach to the state, opportunities to collaborate across programs, and a meaningful impact on students were identified as areas of strength. Opportunities for growth include staff recognition and support, research infrastructure and support, facilities upgrades, and workload fairness.
The Dean’s office continues to (1) engage with the Caring Culture Committee, College Faculty Council, and Staff Advisory Council to review feedback and formulate plans to address concerns; (2) participate in ongoing conversations with research-active faculty to remove roadblocks to the advancement of their research and funding opportunities; and (3) conduct periodic exit interviews with employees and review feedback from the university’s exit survey.

Alumni Mentoring Program
Learn More
The Alumni Mentoring Program (AMP) fosters meaningful connections between alumni and current students. It provides crucial support and real-world insights to students preparing to begin their careers while simultaneously strengthening the bonds of alumni to the college. The program is designed to help students navigate their professional journeys, gain clarity on career pathways, and enhance their awareness of job opportunities. The program empowers students with knowledge and meaningful relationships with alumni, positively impacting their career planning and employability outcomes.
The program offers three flexible commitment levels to connect alumni and friends with our students. At the Inspire level, alumni mentors make a meaningful difference by participating in one intentional phone call or virtual or in-person meeting. The Motivate level involves a meeting or phone call plus facilitating one or more career activities, such as resume reviews, career fairs, or professional development workshops. The Empower level encompasses monthly interactions through texts, emails, phone calls, or meetings, alongside career activities, ensuring ongoing support and active involvement.
The AMP kicked off in August 2024 with 74 students and 64 alumni mentors. For more information, visit AMP COEHP.
